About Families Free

Families Free is a faith-oriented, community based organization operating in the Northeast Tennessee region.
Families Free is a licensed treatment and mental health provider through the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

Families Free’s mission is to strengthen our community and build the capacity of vulnerable families in our region. We do this by providing treatment, intervention services, employment through our social enterprise opportunities, and support for women and families affected by substance abuse, incarceration, and domestic instability.

The combination of quality, evidence-based services and the faith-based principals of compassion, healing, and restoration guide our work and our programs. This, in turn, helps our community’s at-risk and often overlooked populations achieve and maintain positive lifestyle changes.

Families Free is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization that adheres to applicable tax laws and accounting practices of such organizations.

As of March 2018, it was reported that throughout Northeast Tennessee’s eight counties there were 772 children in State’s custody. Families Free provided services for 32 families that work to reunify families or build parental capacity through our Nurturing Parenting Program to keep families together. Our hope is that the 127 children, that are a part of the 32 families we served, will benefit from their parents learning what it means to provide a safe, healthy and nurturing environment for their children.

498 women are currently incarcerated in our regional jails, where Families Free provides parenting classes, life skills, and A&D treatment. 87 of these women are taking part in these services with Families Free.

There are 20 women currently enrolled in our WOVEN program representing 38 children and 32 recent NAS diagnoses.

15 clients are currently taking part in our First Judicial District Felony Recovery Court.
